we ll continue to be a big concern of ice in the next 12 hour just greenwood, union, south carolina where the bull s eye of the thickest ice will fall. we see the numbers ticking up and that threat tomorrow morning. you could see it s expansive. anywhere from a tenth of an inch to a quarter of an inch to bring down trees and power out and just a story to follow. snowfall forecast looking at up to 10 inches in the appalachians. boon down to asheville and then north into west virginia. new york, new england, up to 18 inches of snow along the great lakes but even pittsburgh six inches to a foot of snow.
concerned with the thickest ice. this is sort of an explainer. you have the glaze on the trees, slick roadways. quarter to half inch you see the tree limbs breaking. road conditions are dangerous and then half an inch to an inch is impossible to travel. power lines down. multi-day power outages. we have seen up to nine inches in mississippi. aaron, this map really i think just when i look in mississippi that snow line is so far south and had flurries in florida. we re going to continue to track this for you and up to a foot of snow in the a southeast tonight. that s in a bit. michelle, cathy, thank you both. turning to philadelphia
roadways and tree, we re going to see the trees coming down. that could happen in the northeast with gusty winds overnight. this is what it looks like in terms of the ice. this is a bull s eye of where we think we will see the most eyes form. union to greenwood, chesterfield, in the carolinas. but there s parts of the northeast that could see icing as well. this is the forecast in terms of the ice. you see it even into the northeast parts of pennsylvania and new york into new england. we could see some icing. it s that blue really where we re going to see the thickest ice. snowfall, we re looking anywhere 9 to 10 to a foot of snow. the highest amounts are expected to continue in the highest elevations of the appalachians. even in parts of western pennsylvania, western new york and new england, we are seeing some pretty heavy snowfall as well. now we still do have that tornado risk. 7 million at risk. but we are looking at that squall line moving offshore. we re starting to see improvem
one of those spots likely will be in peoria, stretching on into chicago, similar amounts. st. louis will be digging out for a while from this heavy snowfall event. and just look at the area we re talking about. i mean some oh, 2100 miles or so from oklahoma city on up to chicago and then into new england where it looks as we head into wednesday it will end up being an icing event for folks in new york city. so more slick roadways out there to contend with. it will do a number on the airports as well. here s what we think the core, the thickest ice will be stretching across missouri on up into indianapolis. we could see an inch, an inch thick. it s impossible to drive on ice that s an inch thick and not just the driving problems and the airports it s also going to be power outages we ll see as that ice weighs down the tree limbs and the wind blows and they break off. there will be major travel troubles dealing with them yet in denver this evening.
