Study offers tools for better risk stratification among affected patients
Older age, male sex, and impaired cognitive and physical function were independently linked with mortality in U.S. nursing home residents with Covid-19, researchers reported.
In a study of over 5,000 nursing facility residents, the odds of death among patients ages 80 to 84 was 1.46 times (95% CI 1.14-1.86) higher versus those ages 75 to 79, according to Orestis A. Panagiotou, MD, PhD, of Brown University School of Public Health in Providence, Rhode Island, and co-authors.
Mortality odds increased with age at 1.59 (95% CI 1.25-2.03) times higher for residents ages 85 to 89 and 2.14 (95% CI 1.70-2.69) times higher for residents ages ≥90, they reported in ....
