Free membership now part of Cape Town Tourism's attempt to help keep businesses afloat

The tourism industry has been devastated by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and related travel restrictions.
Cape Town Tourism is trying to help its members weather the storm by offering free membership for the rest of the year.
It is estimated that the tourism sector in Cape Town has lost about R2 billion over the summer season due to lockdown regulations.
A recent impact report by Cape Town Tourism indicates that its members lost an estimated R2 billion and just under 12 000 jobs because of the impact of coronavirus lockdown regulations during what would traditionally have been its high season over the summer. ....

A wealth of skills and assets
Thebe Tourism was founded in 2001 and the senior management team, Jerry Mabena and Brett Hendricks, have steadily built an A-list portfolio of uniquely South African tourism venues. Says Amrish Narrandes, head of Unlisted Equity Transactions at Futuregrowth, “We believe strongly that the tourism industry will return to its former glory post-COVID and, given the quality of the assets of the group, feel Thebe Tourism is well-positioned to capitalise on the eventual resurgence of the sector.” He adds that, with a total GDP contribution of around 9% and over 1.5 million jobs supported, the tourism sector will continue to be an instrumental contributor to the South African economy. ....

Futuregrowth buys stake in Thebe Tourism Group, South Africa


Asset Manager Futuregrowth has put its vote of confidence in the tourism industry by buying a significant stake in Thebe Tourism Group in South Africa. Although the sector has been one of the hardest hit during COVID-19, the properties owned by Thebe Tourism position it well for the industry’s inevitable recovery from the challenges it has faced.
