VIENNA, April 23 (Reuters) - Austria plans to loosen coronavirus restrictions on May 19, letting restaurants, hotels and theatres reopen their doors for the first time in more than five months, the government said on Friday despite concerns about stubbornly high infections.
Austria has had three national lockdowns, the last of which eased in February to let non-essential shops reopen and switch to a nighttime curfew from all-day restrictions on movement.
Rising infections in eastern Austria, however, forced Vienna and the surrounding province to reintroduce a lockdown over Easter that is still in effect, as hospitals remain strained by cases driven by the more contagious coronavirus variant first discovered in the UK. VIENNA, April 23 (Reuters) - Austria plans to loosen its coronavirus restrictions on May 19, letting restaurants, hotels and theatres reopen their doors for the first time in more than five months, the government said on Friday despite concerns about stubbornly high infections.
“The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter,” Chancellor Sebastian Kurz told a news conference. A government statement published at the same time said a nighttime curfew would be scrapped, though meetings between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. would generally be limited to four adults. (Reuters) - The U.S. state of Michigan on Tuesday announced a loosening of its coronavirus restrictions, allowing larger gatherings and easing limits on capacity for restaurants and other businesses.

The relaxation comes as reported infections in the state decline.
The revised state health department order will take effect on Friday and last through to April 19.
Restrictions on inside seating for restaurants and bars will be raised to 50% of capacity, or a maximum 100 people, from 25%, the order from the state health department said. ....
