More than $700,000 has been funneled into Central Mass. cultural nonprofit organizations as part of a $10-million funding package disbursed to 183 groups across the state through the Massachusetts Cultural Council and Executive Office of Housing & Economic Development, the groups announced on Thursday. The grant program attracted more than $30.2 million in requests from 424 different applicants, according to the Mass. Cultural Council, making the process quite competitive. “The commonwealth’s cultural institutions make significant contributions to our economy by driving local commerce and employing a specialized workforce, while also preserving and fostering key components that make Massachusetts unique,” said Housing & Economic Development Secretary Mike Kennealy, in a statement. ....
