The Wall That Heals is a traveling exhibit that has toured the United States for the last 30 years. On March 19, the exhibit will make its way to El Cajon.
Starting around 2017, the five Oliveira sisters spent hours upon hours learning about military terms, DD-214s and discharge papers with the help of their uncles Tommy and Mel. It was their goal to get their father on the memorial.
The Wall That Heals, the largest replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall that travels the country, arrived at War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku on Feb. 8, marking its first-ever visit to Maui.
This week on Maui, there’s major tribute concerts to Jimmy Buffet with Jake Shimabukuro and songwriter Mac McAnnaly, and a Willie K Tribute by Makana. There’s also events celebrating Mardi Gras, Valentines Day, Chinese New Year and a football viewing for the weekend.
The County of Maui, in partnership with the Maui County Veterans Council, will host “The Wall That Heals,” a scaled-down, ¾-size version of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., from Friday, Feb. 9, to Feb. 13 at War Memorial Stadium.
