Police are facing an accommodation crisis in Nelson Mandela Bay, with temporary lodgings needed for scores of new members set to be deployed to the metro to bolster its crime-fighting capabilities.

The University of Fort Hare held a memorial service for slain protection services officer Mboneli Vesele in Dikeni on Thursday. Vesele, the bodyguard of vice-chancellor Prof Sakhela Buhlungu, died in a hail of bullets on Friday night in a work vehicle. The attack, which took place near the vice-chancellor’s home after he had been dropped off, is strongly believed to have been aimed at Buhlungu.
