Key West proves it: Florida voters care about the environment, but Florida Republicans overrule them


Boyd s bill goes on to claim that local regulations enacted by citizens of a community threaten “the public’s health, safety, and welfare,” while, again, ignoring the fact that the health of local citizens is one primary concern the Key West measures seek to address.
The proposed bill is similar to another that Republicans pushed through in 2016 after Orlando residents expressed interest in banning environmentally dangerous polystyrene. Other Republican-backed measures have blocked voter and city official-approved initiatives that required paid sick leave, that would allow cities to engage with telecommunication providers directly, to limit gun sales, ban plastic bags, and to block coral reef-killing sunscreens. ....

Central Florida Film Festival returns to Mount Dora after 16-month absence

and a pandemic, the Central Florida Film Festival has seen it all over the last three years. Now, after a nearly 16-month absence, CenFlo is finally back at Epic Theatres in Mount Dora, January 22-24.
The changes began in 2017 when festival founder and director Bob Cook handed the reins to Brendon Rogers, who moved the event from Ocoee s West Orange Cinema to Mount Dora the following year. Rogers also shifted the festival from Labor Day weekend to the weekend after the holiday, as that was a better fit for Epic. But because of a hurricane in 2019, the festival scooted to late September. Fed up with ....

Icon Park is getting a ton of new attractions, but its developer seems to have given up on tourists

Orlando’s Icon Park made a big splash when, in 2015, it opened with the largest observation wheel east of the Mississippi. The development, then known as I-Drive 360, has seen a constant stream of tourists. Since then, various plans for a massive influx of new attractions have been planned but with multiple new attractions now in the works. Now, those plans finally look to be happening. While some of the businesses within the complex have been embraced by locals and tourists alike, causing crowds even on the slowest of nights, other tenants have struggled.  ....
