May 25, 2021 George Floyd died a year ago today. And since his death there have been numerous other police killings and senseless murders of innocent lives. This past year we have really seen a lot of loss, we ve been through an emotional cycle of uncertainty, fear, anger, anxiety and more. And although some progress has been made, it s really up to us to continue to roll up our sleeves and do what we can to make our communities stronger and better. Whether it be volunteering, mentoring, teaching, informing, encouraging voting or whatever you choose to do, we ALL have to do something in order to be the change that we want to see.

Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) took to Twitter Monday evening to call for an end to policing in the United States as we know it, claiming it’s “intentionally racist” and “can’t be reformed.” Tlaib’s comments come after the killing of a 20-year-old black man, Daunte Wright, who was fatally shot Sunday by an officer, during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Police say the shooting was accidental. “It wasn’t an accident,” wrote Tlaib. “Policing in our country is inherently & intentionally racist. Daunte Wright was met with aggression & violence.”

2 House Democrats Vote Alongside Republicans to Keep Qualified Immunity for Police Two Democrats crossed the aisle to vote against a police reform package introduced by their colleagues that would bring broad changes to the way policing is carried out across the country. One of the key oppositions to the bill was that it weakens legal immunity for officers, making it harder for them to do their job. Reps. Jared F. Golden (D-Maine) and Ron Kind (D-Wis.) on Wednesday voted to preserve the qualified immunity that protects officers from being sued because of a split-second decision made in the line of duty.
