My alarm went off this morning at 3:50 a.m., the same as it always has for the last 9,000 times I ve started my day at work. My dog always looks at me like, Do you realize what time it is? Yes, I do, and I have to admit I m starting to feel it a little more each year. As I started my drive into work with my eyes wide open looking for deer, I thought, Paul, you can t keep this up. How I Get Up So Early Every Morning This is the answer to the question I m asked most often: How do you get up so early? My answer is always, I need the money. Actually, in the early years, I was still out jitterbugging and chasing women until all hours. Some days I would hit the snooze button more than once. But it wasn t too long into it that I figured out that sleep was vital. Once my body adjusted to the hours, I ve been a morning person ever since. I originally bought my little alarm clock about 20 years ago. It was purchased to be a second alarm source. I think I paid less than five bucks for it. Nowadays I hear the coffee pot start, so I never sleep all the way until 3:20, my normal alarm time. ....
The Year Was 1988: Mark Remembers I wasn t as focused on my broadcast career as I could have been in 1988, but I got hired at Cat Country. I also had a job spinning records at T-Birds. I was driving a school bus a couple of days a week. Then Coors called. The distributor of Coors beer was independent of other beer companies at that time. They were doing a promotion at the Eagles Nest called, Tight Fittin Jeans Contest and they needed an emcee. The pay was free Coors Beer. Sold. The company representative at that time was a gentleman named Jim Rex, a man I would grow to think very highly of. Jim took me golfing even after I tried to kill him with an errant shot. The Tight Fittin Jeans contest would turn into Tight Fittin Shorts which would turn into some other contest that would occupy my Thursday nights for most of the summer. ....
