For tracking live rock/folk/indie bands what monitors would you recommend? My budget could go as high as the Graham Audio LS5/8 which at £7400 has a 12” woofer in a massive 108 litre cabinet. But do I need this size? Am I better off for tracking purposes to consider: - ATC SM25A Any thoughts appreciated! One would be a set of PA speakers for live monitoring which won t necessarily be accurate but will be able to handle the volume. You can then use smaller monitors for accuracy.

sc1460 » Tue Apr 06, 2021 9:56 pm Thanks James, definitely worth exploring, as I’m recording flat into my DAW ( main adjustments are the microphone type and position) it sounds like using a speaker that’s more PA suited to listen to the band with a full live sound, is that what you’re suggesting? Sadly the Tannoy website only shows their budget studio range, do they make the large studio monitors anymore? I’ve found Tannoy Berkeley on eBay for £1900 so would save a ton of money! I’ll check out dB technologies. Anyone else using large speakers for monitoring live bands in the control room?
