The storm isn't terribly intense, as strong winds and tornadoes won't be an issue, but it comes during arguably the worst possible time of year as people travel home after the Thanksgiving holiday.

A winter storm is brewing for parts of the South this weekend and early next week, where a hefty dose of snow is set to ride through Texas and perhaps even Louisiana and Mississippi. A plowable snowfall is likely for some, with slick travel along much of the Interstate 20 corridor. Dallas, Shreveport, La., and Jackson, Miss. are all in line for potential impacts.
Winter storm watches have already been issued for parts of eastern New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle and Plains. That s where a widespread 4 to 8 inches of snow is likely as early as Saturday night. By Sunday, the system will be rolling east, approaching states along the Gulf Coast.
