Abbott Judge Phil Johnson of Lubbock (Source: Texas Tribune) By Harrison Roberts | March 15, 2021 at 11:48 AM CDT - Updated March 15 at 11:48 AM LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Justice Phil Johnson to the Judicial Compensation Commission for a term set to expire on February 1, 2023. Additionally, he appointed JJ Clemence and reappointed Scott Salmans, who was named chairman as well, for terms set to expire on February 1, 2027. The commission recommends the proper salaries to be paid by the state for all justices and judges of the Supreme Court, Court of Criminal Appeals, Courts of Appeals, and state district courts.

Private Family Graveside Service for Bill will be held on Tuesday, January 12 th, 2021 at Greenleaf Cemetery.  A Memorial Service will be held in his honor at a later date.  Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home in Brownwood. Bill was born on September 2, 1942, to Lyman E. Shaw, II and Frances (Hampton) Shaw in Brownwood. He graduated from Brownwood High School in 1960 then attended Texas A&M, graduating in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. Bill subsequently graduated with a Law Degree from Texas Tech University; he was in the first graduating class of Texas Tech Law school.
