Local Black talent and trailblazers will take center stage at a new downtown Juneteenth celebration planned for Legacy Park.
The park, located near Frost Tower at 107 W. Houston St., will host The Art of Four s multi-sensory and educational experience from 6 to 10 p.m. to mark the moment in state history. Juneteenth has been celebrated annually since 865, when Union Gen. Gorden Granger arrived in Galveston to tell about 250,000 enslaved people in Texas they were free, two years after Abraham Lincoln s Emancipation Proclamation.
The Art of Four was launched in October 2019 by Maria Hazelwood to amplify local Black artists. The initiative selects four artist annually to be featured prominently in local exhibits.  ....
