As a part of the wave of protests against the genocide of Palestinians, writers in the US have begun to oppose the writers' civil rights organization, PEN America, for its equivocation and silence on the Israeli crimes.
A little over three months after a Russian missile strike in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk killed writer Victoria Amelina, her colleagues and readers gathered at the 30th annual Lviv BookForum festival to honor her memory. British journalist Christina Lamb moderated the event titled “Women, War, and Justice: In Memory of Victoria Amelina.” The panel featured PEN Ukraine’s Executive Director Tetyana Teren, Lviv BookForum’s Program Director Sofia Cheliak, and human rights lawyer Oleksandra Matviichuk.
The writers' association PEN Ukraine reported on Aug. 8 that 25,000 English-language books will be donated to libraries across Ukraine, including those located near the front line or in recently-liberated territories.
