(Courtesy of Rick Uldricks) LAKEWOOD, OH After an 18-year-old was hurt in a shooting at Madison Park on Tuesday evening, members of Lakewood City Council swiftly proposed improved safety measures for the park and city. In a letter shared to social media, Councilperson Tom Bullock called for an expanded police presence at the park immediately, including having an officer at the park seven days a week during open park times. He also called for: adding cameras to the park, full-staffing of the neighborhood policing units, and an open dialogue with county officials to secure their support. ....

(From Tess Neff) LAKEWOOD, OH Councilperson Tess Neff has announced her candidacy for judge of the Lakewood Municipal Court. Neff is currently the Ward 1 City Council representative. She has also served on the Lakewood Preschool PTA, the Lakewood YMCA Board and the Beck Center for the Arts Engagement Committee. She also has legal experience in multiple Northeast Ohio courts. As a magistrate for 10 years in the Lakewood Municipal Court and 12 years in the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Juvenile Division Court I have made many difficult and important judicial decisions on criminal and civil cases that directly impact individuals lives, she said. Like a judge, a magistrate must apply the law, consider community safety and victims rights, all while ensuring equal and fair treatment to the individuals appearing in court. ....
Lakewood mayor urges council to approve paid parental leave benefits Updated Jan 21, 2021; LAKEWOOD, Ohio Exactly two years after first introducing an ordinance to provide paid parental leave benefits to the city’s full-time employees as a councilwoman, Mayor Meghan George is hoping City Council passes the legislation, which was reintroduced on Tuesday (Jan. 19). “While initially discussed at the time, I really couldn’t get a lot of traction from the prior administration or council,” said George, who, before becoming mayor, worked in the healthcare industry as a benefits consultant. “I knew once I became mayor I wanted to reintroduce this benefit, because it’s been a long passion of mine.” ....
