Kindred, ND (NewsDakota.com) – With three big games in the span of eight days leading up to the start of the District 5 tournament, the Oakes Tornadoes girls’ basketball team lost their first test to the #2 ranked Kindred Vikings 73-44 Monday night. While the game was over as a contest early, there was some excitement as junior Abby Duchscherer of the Vikings scored her 2,000th point of her varsity career. The basket came with 1:40 remaining in the 3rd quarter on a runner from the left baseline, and the basket was followed by a timeout and well-deserved standing ovation from the crowd as acknowledgement of her accomplishment. ....

Davies held a one-point advantage at halftime and limited Kindred to 18 points in the final 18 minutes. Marissa Burian scored a season-high 18 points off the bench and made five three-pointers while Brooklyn Koenig added a season-high 16 points and made four three-pointers for Davies. Abby Duchscherer paced Kindred (9-3 overall) with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Terryn Johnson added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Vikings. Davies (8-1 overall) hosts Grand Forks Central on Tuesday. By Holden Mitchell KINDRED – Two of North Dakota’s best high school girls’ basketball teams squared off in what ended up being very much a back-and-forth match-up. In the end, it was the Central Cass Squirrels that edged out the Kindred Vikings with a 59-58 victory. For the Squirrels (8-0 overall), they were led by guard Rylie Holzer and guard Victoria Richter who each had 11 points. Right behind them was forward Decontee Smith and guard Morgan Lee with 10 points each. One of the biggest differences in the game was how well Central Cass shot at the free-throw line. Kindred went 8 for 10 at the line whereas Central Cass went a whopping 15 for 22. ....
