In December of 1993, at the beginning of his junior season at Seton Hall, Dan Hurley had had enough of his personal demons and decided to do something about it.
He called a press conference in the back room at Dohoney’s tavern on West Side Avenue in Jersey City, and invited several local beat reporters. Hurley felt comfortable at Dohoney’s because it was owned by Ed Ford, a longtime Jersey City character who was commonly known as “The Faa” and was the best man at the wedding of Hurley’s parents, Bob and Chris. ....

On April 3, 1989, the Seton Hall men’s basketball team played in their first and only NCAA national championship game at the Kingdome in Seattle. The Pirates were without a regular season or conference tournament title to their name in those days, but program legends like John Morton, Daryll Walker and Ramón Ramos were playing the best basketball of their careers to get the team to the pinnacle of college basketball games that season. ....
