As you know, we are here because a year ago, almost exactly a year ago today, president obama created the First Ever National park site devoted to reconstruction. As we all know, the United States has dozens of sites , buted to the civil war until january 2017, we had none devoted to reconstruction. Fittingly, the site that was designated was in beaufort, South Carolina. We set up this roundtable to bring together some of the people who played crucial roles in making that happen.
