The Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday introduced its new right tackle, Alejandro Villanueva, after signing the free agent who spent the last six seasons with Pittsburgh.
But talk of switching sides in the rivalry was the least interesting part of meeting, Big Al.
Several early questions for Villanueva revolved around the best rivalry in the NFL Baltimore and Pittsburgh but he quickly batted those aside, just expressing respect and admiration for both franchises.
The story of Big Al is so much more.
Although born in the United States, Villanueva grew up as a rugby player in Europe. Then, his life changed as a teenager.

Alejandro Villanueva will still get a chance to see his former team at least twice per year.
He ll also get the opportunity to be on the other side of one of the NFL s best rivalries.
The newly signed Ravens tackle spent his entire career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. While Villanueva has no hard feelings toward his former team, he is looking to compete against them. I just think that everybody makes business decisions, said Villanueva, who signed a two-year, $14 million deal with Baltimore. The Steelers have to make their decisions, and then obviously myself, or my agent has to inform me of what my options are in the future. I’m not sure. You’d have to ask the Steelers and their front office, but I’m sure that there were many factors involving salary cap, the direction the team was going to and whatnot.

⢠After serving as interim director of the Mississippi Development Authority since last May, John Rounsaville has been elevated to executive director of the state economic development agency.
Gov. Tate Reeves made the announcement Tuesday.
âHeâs done an exceptional job in his interim capacity,â Reeves said. âHeâs earned the respect of Mississippi businesses across the state, because they know heâs pulling for them. And heâs helped us win in the competition for jobs and expansions.â
MDA employs about 300 people.
Rounsaville replaces Tupelo native Glenn McCullough Jr., who was MDA director under former Gov. Phil Bryant from 2015 through January of last year.
