Transcripts For CNNW The Lead With Jake Tapper 20170106 21:00:00

Flight, an air canada flight, arrived in that very terminal on a flight from alaska earlier today, that he waited for his luggage along with the other passengers on that flight, that he retrieved his bags where he had checked firearms. These are firearms that you can legally check with the airline. And he legally was able to do that. He went to a bathroom, retrieved the firearm and came back out and started shooting. According to the initial investigations, it doesnt appear that he was targeting anyone in particular. He appeared to be shooting ram donnelly. There was no rym or reason to the shooting. But it appears that a lot of the people who he would have shot and some of the people that were killed might have been some of the passengers that were on this flight. Again, he came on a flight, an air canada flight were told, that came from alaska and landed earlier at ft. Lauderdale international airport. Again, this is a twist on something weve never seen before. Again, weve seen shoot

USC research center receives a $1 million grant from the Department of Defense

The $1 million grant from the United States Department of Defense will be used to study terrorism in post-conflict zones. (Vincent Leo | Daily Trojan) Following 9/11, researchers at USC realized that there was a lack of resources devoted to the study of terrorism, so professors were recruited to form an independent research group at the university to address the issue of terrorism. However, as more people got involved, the topics of research at the program expanded to include other problems as well, such as natural disasters and technological accidents.  Now, the independent research center, dedicated to studying terrorism across various disciplines including economics  and engineering, received a $1 million grant from the United States Department of Defense to conduct a study on terrorism in post-conflict zones early this February.
