Born and raised in Madagascar, Helary grew up with a respect for the natural world. This led him to pursue a master’s degree in environmental and wildlife management, and ultimately a Ph.D. in nutritional ecology, focusing on the endangered black rhinoceros native to southern and eastern Africa.
