The UK Government has ordered sanctions on three top government officials in Chechnya for their part in the continued torture of LGBTQ+ people.
Magomed Daudov, spokesperson of the Chechen parliament, Aiub Kataev, head of the ministry of internal affairs, and Apti Alaudinov, deputy minister and major general of the police, will all be subject to travel bans and asset freezes under UK laws.

The UK government has ordered strict sanctions to be placed upon three top Chechen officials charged with torturing LGBT+ people in the region’s “gay purge”.
Magomed Daudov, spokesperson of the Chechen parliament, Aiub Kataev, head of the ministry of internal affairs, and Apti Alaudinov, deputy minister and major general of the police, will be subject to travel bans and asset freezes under the UK’s global human rights sanctions.
Sanctions will also fall upon the Terek Special Rapid Response Unit, a military branch of the national guard of Russia, for their role in the abusive regime.

Marking International Human Rights Day, the US and UK announced a new round of sanctions targeting 31 human rights violators from across the globe.
This is the third announcement of sanctions under the UK’s sanctions regime and includes travel bans and asset freezes for human rights violators from Russia, Venezuela, Gambia, and Pakistan. The US sanctions targeted officials from China, El Salvador, Haiti, Liberia, Jamaica, Kyrgyz Republic, and Russia.
Included in the sanctions were former Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh, and Ahmad Anwar Khan, the former Senior Superintendent of Police in Malir District, a district in southern Pakistan. This was due to “historic human rights violations including extrajudicial killings of protestors and minority groups”.
