Clarice Phelps is the first Black woman to help discover a new periodic table element.
"Taking a seat at the periodic table didn't happen overnight, it was actually a 20-year journey," she said.
Two Black female chemists are bringing STEM education to underserved teenagers to ensure they do not experience what they went through seen for being outstanding yet immediately unseen because of their color.
Materials Engineering and Testing Corporation and Schmiede Corporation were among the companies honored at the 2021 ORNL Small Business Awards.
