In what organizers believe is the largest community tree planting event in America, thousands of volunteers have registered to plant more than 50,000 native trees including every county in the state during Tennessee Tree Day, taking place March 20, 2021. The event includes 112 community tree pickup sites and more than 4,000 individual tree-planting locations. The event is organized every year by Tennessee Environmental Council, a non-profit organization based in Nashville, with Tennessee s Department of Agriculture, Division of Forestry playing a vital role in this event.
“In a rough pandemic year, it is heartwarming to see thousands of volunteer participants planting trees and planting hope for our future,” says Cynthia Hernandez, Tree Program Manager at Tennessee Environmental Council.

Tennessee Tree Day set for March 20

Tennessee residents are invited to beautify their properties and their communities by planting trees on “Tennessee Tree Day” on March 20, 2021, and the Healthy Waters Program would like to help Oak Ridgers get involved.
Tennessee Tree Day 2021 is facilitated through the Tennessee Environment Council with the help of numerous state organizations and agencies.
“It is a statewide tree planting event that engages thousands of Tennesseans of all ages and backgrounds to partake in the most powerful method of carrying out conservation solutions that will benefit communities for decades to come,” a city of Oak Ridge news release stated. Volunteers across the state will plant trees at their homes, farms, businesses, neighborhoods and other locations of their choosing. TennesseeTreeDay2021, now through March 7th. Participants are asked to make a suggested donation of $1.99 for every tree they reserve for planting on March 20th.
