Panaji, May 21 (IANS) In a major setback, the Goa government lost the rape case against former editor-in-chief of Tehelka after a metropolitan magistrate court on Friday acquitted the senior journalist of rape charges, filed by a junior colleague who had accused Tarun Tejpal of sexually assaulting her in a five-star resort in Goa in 2013.

Agra, May 20 : The Uttar Pradesh government has mounted a massive campaign to sensitise and sanitise the vast rural hinterland, after a hue and cry over the alarming rise in fatalities from Covid-19.
And the good news is that the results are beginning to show.
Hitherto, the efforts to contain Covid-19 were city-centric. The villages were ignored in the mistaken belief that people in rural areas enjoyed better immunity, and a healthy lifestyle, compared to those in the congested urban areas, but in the past fortnight the number of cases in the rural segment has gone up alarmingly, said Tej Pal, an activist of Mathura. He returned to his native village and now plans to develop Peepal Vatikas, clusters of Peepal trees. ....

NEW DELHI: A sessions court in Goa on Wednesday deferred the judgment in the alleged rape case against Tehelka founder-editor Tarun Tejpal to May 19. The final arguments in the eight-year-old trial against Tejpal had concluded in Goa in March.
On November 7 and 8, 2013, Tejpal allegedly sexually assaulted a junior colleague at an event organised by Tehelka in a star hotel in North Goa. On November 22, Goa Police lodged a suo motu FIR against Tejpal.
He turned up in Goa on November 28 and was arrested on November 30, 2013, after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected. He was granted interim bail on May 19, 2014, to attend the cremation of his mother and since then had been out of jail. In July 2014, Tejpal was granted regular bail. ....
