Turkmen Handcraft: Part of the Heritage of Humanity

Politics Published 02.02.2021 2134 On February 1, the Ministry of Culture hosted an online working meeting with representatives of the UNESCO Tehran Cluster Office.  The meeting focused on developing joint proposals concerning the inscription of traditional Turkmen crafts on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In particular, the sides discussed the nomination file for the traditional art of embroidery, keşdeçilik sungaty, which stretches back into antiquity.    During an exchange of views, the meeting participants recognized the special significance of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s constructive policy of multilateral cooperation with UNESCO in preserving the Turkmen nation’s ancient cultural treasures, including the art of embroidery.
