Foreign service officers miffed at Imran’s jab
Anger has been building among the foreign service officers over Prime Minister Imran Khan’s comments accusing them of harbouring ‘colonial mindset’ and ‘callousness’ in dealing with the expatriate community.
Prime Minister Khan had, while speaking to envoys posted in 19 countries through video conferencing on Wednesday, said that he had noticed “shocking callousness” of Pakistani diplomats posted overseas after a few recent incidents involving the expatriates.
He was in particular critical of the missions in Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, which host the largest Pakistani communities overseas, but the way the comments were delivered made it look like a censure of the entire foreign service.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has come under criticism for accusing the country s foreign service officers of harbouring colonial mindset and callousness while appreciating their Indian counterparts.
Addressing the envoys virtually on Wednesday, Khan showed anger at what he called “shocking callousness” of Pakistani diplomats abroad towards fellow Pakistanis. He also accused them of having a colonial mindset in their dealing with Pakistani nationals.
Khan said: “Indian embassies are more proactive in bringing investments” to their country and they also provide “better services to their citizens”.
At least three former foreign secretaries of Pakistan took strong exception to Khan s remarks.

A day after Prime Minister Imran Khan publically castigated Pakistani missions abroad, there is an uproar in the Foreign Office with many diplomats lodged a strong protest with the foreign minister and foreign secretary for scapegoating them.
Sources confirmed that Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Thursday held more than two hours long meeting with senior officials at the Foreign Office after they expressed reservations over the premier’s public criticism.
