Chennai, July 4 : A successful commercial launch, charting the decadal plan, coming out with a draft policy to allow private players, transferring medical equipment technologies was how the government owned space sector closed the Covid-19 affected first half of 2021.

Chennai, Dec 31 : The priority for the year 2021 will be to usher in increased space sector reforms by putting in place a permanent Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) and other sectoral policies, said K.Sivan, Secretary, Department of Space (DoS).
Sivan is also the Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Space Commission.
He said an interim IN-SPACe, which was set up, has received 28 applications from the private sector companies small and big startups, and academic institutions for various space related activities. ....

Even though the year 2020 would be known as Covid-19 year, it could also be termed as the defining year for the Indian space sector to put it in a different orbit with the private sector as a co-traveller of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
As a part of that, the Department of Space (DoS) recently signed an agreement with Chennai based small rocket company Agnikul Cosmos Pvt Ltd to access the facilities and technical expertise available in ISRO centres.
According to DoS, this is the first of its kind agreement to be signed after the establishment of Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), the authorisation and regulatory body for enabling private players to undertake space activities in India. ....
