System's response to class action lawsuit filed by ASU student


On July 20, Peggy Bryan, an Angelo State University student, filed a class action lawsuit against the Texas Tech University System in the District Court of Lubbock County.
The lawsuit, provided by the Office Media Relations & Communications for the System, states that the plaintiff is suing the System, the Board of Regents and the Chairman of the Board of Regents on behalf of students who have paid or will pay tuition to attend one of the universities within the system.
The Universities have not refunded any amount of the tuition or Mandatory Fees even though it has cancelled in-person classes in mid-March, 2020, according to the lawsuit. As a result, the Universities unlawfully seized and are in possession of property (funds) of the Plaintiff and Class members in the form of paid tuition and Mandatory Fees. ....

MSU joins Tech System on Sept 1


The Alliance
On Aug. 6, 2020, MSU and the system executed a memorandum of understanding between the two institutions to which MSU would become the fifth institution to join the system. According to the memorandum, the two institutions had to seek approval from the Texas State Legislature. 
President of MSU Suzane Shipley said she is happy to see the efforts of the MSU Board of Regents, the system and herself prevail after working on this project for a year and a half. She also is excited to be joining the system of her alma mater; she graduated from Tech with her bachelor’s and master’s. ....

Tech Systems' Student Senates meet for Joint Congress


 
All of the Student Government Associations from the four universities under the Texas Tech System convened for the 6th session of Joint Congress on April 15, 2021, at 6 p.m. virtually.
 
The Senate was led by the internal vice president at Tech, Klay Davis, and was hosted by SGA at Tech virtually. The student regent, Brooke Walterscheid, along with the SGAs of Tech Health Science Center Lubbock, HSC El Paso and Angelo State University started Joint Congress by reciting the pledge and the SGA Land Acknowledgement.
 
 
Dr. Carol Sumner, chief diversity officer at Tech, gave updates about changes and implementation of programs at Tech. She said that Tech will be opening a Black cultural center that allows people to explore Black Culture and is open to all. ....
