Sixth Inning Comeback Sends Alabama to Championship Round
Any semifinal game comes with a lot of pressure, and the team that can perform under it is the team that will prevail. That team was Alabama tonight as they defeated the Tennessee Lady Vols 6-5 in an action packed game.
“I think it’s exactly what we needed and the best part is we ended up winning,” head coach Patrick Murphy said. “It was just one of those Rhoads House magic games that happen frequently.”
The sixth inning brought the action and the pressure.
Starting pitcher Montana Fouts had reached 97 pitches and given up a single. Murphy made the decision to put Lexi Kilfoyl in the circle.
Bailey Hemphill, SEC Player of the Year and Montana Fouts, SEC Co-Pitcher of the Year, put on performances that helped their team move on to the semifinals.
Bama Softball Loses First Game of the Season
The Alabama Crimson Tide softball team (19-1) falls for the first time this season in its final game of the Easton T-Town Showdown. Alabama’s loss (1-0) to South Alabama is head coach Patrick Murphy’s first loss to an in-state school that is not Auburn.
South Alabama’s pitcher, freshman Olivia Lackie, was able to quiet Alabama’s bats holding the team to no runs and three hits in seven innings.
“Their pitcher did an awesome job; she didn’t miss many spots,” Murphy said. “We just didn’t make enough adjustments.”
