Local Matters - Government springs for Kaipara Council water upgrades

Government springs for Kaipara Council water upgrades The reservoir on Griffin Road in Maungaturoto – currently just a couple of concrete tanks. Kaipara District Council is undertaking several water infrastructure projects this year, including replacement of Maungaturoto’s water main pipes as part of a $6 million programme. The works are able to take place thanks to partial funding from the Government’s Three Waters Reform programme. The KDC unlocked those funds when it agreed to a memorandum of understanding to investigate amalgamation of its assets into a centralised body. This month, one kilometre of damaged water mains on Hurndall Street in Maungaturoto will be replaced, as well as three kilometres of raw water mains that feed the town’s water treatment plant.

Infrastructure Renewal Projects Roll Out Across District

Wednesday, 19 May 2021, 10:51 am Nine infrastructure renewal projects are being rolled out across Kaipara District this year. The work has been funded as part of the Three Waters Reform process, after Kaipara District Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in August 2020. The Government-led programme has provided incentives for Councils to partner in the first stages of the Reform Programme. Councils are able to opt out of discussions at any future stage. The first project – renewal of approx. 2,500m of watermain renewals in Haimona Street and Pirika Street, Dargaville – is nearing completion now. Work is also starting on watermain renewals in Ruawai this week (from Monday 17 May). Our team

Local Matters - Kaipara council re-thinks water charges to share costs

Kaipara council re-thinks water charges to share costs The Mangawhai waste-water treatment plant. The Kaipara District Council (KDC) is floating a proposal to its communities to share the cost of drinking and wastewater systems evenly among all ratepayers. Council’s sustainable growth and investment general manager, Sue Davidson, says the current system is too complex. “Capital costs are currently paid for by specific networks while operational costs are shared across all networks, except for the Te Kopuru wastewater scheme, where all costs are paid by those on the scheme,” Ms Davidson says. Council is seeking feedback on two new options. Ms Davidson says KDC’s preferred option is to share capital, maintenance and operating costs equally across ratepayers on all networks.
