Florida medical marijuana: Effort to limit THC content criticized

A stark contrast, in other words, to ongoing legislative moves against cannabis. Nearly five years after 71% of Floridians voted to approve medical marijuana, a sizable number of Florida lawmakers want to slash the THC content now legally available to more than half a million registered cannabis patients.
The most popular retail product, smokable flower, can contain more than 30% THC. A bloc of legislators in the Florida House, however, has decided that Floridians just don’t need that much on account of allegations that elevated amounts can cause psychosis and schizophrenia.
What’s safe, according to some lawmakers? Ten percent for flower. Oils and extracts, which can contain up to 100% THC? Sixty percent. Edibles would be limited to 15%. ....

Florida considers ban on keeping spacecraft parts found after launches

Lawmakers in Florida, where private firm SpaceX is increasingly launching missions to outer space, are considering a bill to add criminal penalties for anyone who finds a spacecraft or parts of one and tries to keep it.
The proposals would require anyone in Florida who finds a spacecraft or reasonably identifiable parts to notify law enforcement officers. They also would require police or sheriff s deputies to try to find the object’s rightful owner.
The bills would protect spacecraft, satellites, parachutes or other landing aids, and any other equipment attached to the launch vehicle during launch, orbit, reentry, or recovery. The plan reflects the eagerness for Florida s Space Coast to remain the dominant player for mission launches by the emerging private space industry. ....

Sunburn — The morning read of what’s hot in Florida politics — 3.12.21
Good Friday morning.
According to a new poll released by
Ryan Tyson of The Tyson Group, Florida voters support several measures pitched as improving election security and voter access.
The poll, commissioned by nonpartisan nonprofit Secure Democracy, found more than three-quarters of Floridians want ballot drop boxes to be monitored either in-person or by video.
The proposal earned 77% among the 600 voters polled, with Republicans backing it at a higher rate (83%) than Democrats or no-party voters.
Meanwhile, nearly seven in 10 said they want their family members or caregivers to be able to turn in a ballot on their behalf. A near equal number (67%) want more days of early voting, while most (57%) want the state to tell felons what fines they need to pay to regain voting rights. ....
