Maybe. the president warned republicans wednesday though not to use the debt ceiling as a bargaining chip. if congress in any way suggests that they re going to tie negotiations to debt ceiling votes, and take us to the brink of default once again, as part of a budget negotiation, which by the way we have never done in our history until we did it last year, i will not play that game. well, but on the debt ceiling point, republicans are united. there is a lack of unit on the tax rate issue, not on this one. politically a limited victory on middle class tax cuts could be the worst kind of victory for the white house because it could tip the leverage and enlarge the debate over spending and entitlements to the republicans. they don t care if the political popularity goes down on this. they think they could still have this leverage. one thing that could ferment all ....
The tax increase on everybody so that they can force a vote to lower the rates back only for those americans outside the top 2%, you re right. a lot of liberals would like to see that. this is why the president has leverage. he has some leverage off of his victory in the campaign, but he s got a lot of leverage off of the tax rate issue as well as these defense cuts and the republicans know it. that s why there s much more pressure on them and you hear this from a lot of lobbyists and members of congress quietly, a lot of republican governors, eventually even if we go over the cliff it may be the republicans have less leverage at that point rather than more. let s talk about one of the other juicy stories today, which is bob woodward in the style section of the washington post reporting for the first time that a prominent republican national security expert who was traveling with david petraeus was dispatched, a fox contributor, and was dispatched by roger ales during the primary s ....
It was lowered to 28%. we can take that approach again. you know, you brought up the fact that you are in real est e estate. one of the items that will be on the table is the mortgage deduction and one of the kr criticisms that the white house had, for instance on the boehner plan, is there were no details there on deductions. how do you envision just dealing with the mortgage deduction tax credit? well, the idea that i like the most is by capping deductions in the aggregate so you don t pick on one deduction or itemize deductions for mo mortgage interest or for charitable deduction but you have an aggregate that s a cap. maybe it s $35,000, whatever it might be. so you cap the total of deductions. you don t itemize them and pull one out and leave one on the table. if we end up going over the cliff, because of this tax rate issue, is it something that republicans ought to say, you know what, we can t deal with ....
Help the middle class and those trying to get to the middle class. the president bringing up the comment that, yes, there are wealthy people out there who basically shouldn t mind having to shell out an not sure why republicans keep trying to protect what he said were many wealthy people i think he said lived in hollywood and voted for the president anyway. it is amazing to me been a relatively short amount of time since the last election and already republicans in election mode and more focused on the base voters and not clear to them they lost talking to the base voters. they have to budge on the tax rate issue. where that line is i don t know. that s a deal struck between the noerkt or thes but if the republicans don t budge, i think they re going to be sorely mistaken because the president doesn t seem willing to give up and shouldn t with big entitlement reforms without taxes. ....
Of things that you can do, control of one house of congress to hurt the implementation of a law that s still wildly unpopular. more importantly, republicans despise go out there and take the air out of the balloon. maybe some of this is overstated, but i think after the kicking and the teeth that we got on tuesday, we are looking for some hope from john boehner. he was good on the tax rate issue today, i should say. we re not going for tax rate increases. i think that is the kind of stuff people want to hear. that s what we need to hear. we do need to double down on our message. obama care is wrong, not because it came from obama but because it will hurt the most vulnerable members of our society. we can t allow that to happen. we, as conservatives we who believe in liberty. we who believe in prosperity and want all americans to have it must make this message clear. that government often is the problem. and we have got to get it out ....
