For Khaylin Eley, Feb. 11 was supposed to be a fun night. The Rider University junior and her Zeta Phi Beta sorority sisters had planned a “Galentine’s Day” virtual event, along with another Greek organization on campus, to celebrate friendship.
Five minute before the event’s 9:30 start time, Eley noticed an unusual number of users in the Zoom waiting room. They began admitting people into the meeting, and that’s when things took a turn.
Before Eley knew what was happening, the event was hijacked by uninvited Zoom bombers who bombarded attendees with racist and disturbing content. Attackers began changing their Zoom user names to racist, mocking phrases before taking control of the screen, drawing swastikas and writing racial slurs for Black people across thee slides. ....
