MANDYA: Intensifying their stir against illegal mining around Baby Betta in Pandavapura taluk, Mandya, farmers’ outfits have appealed to the district administration to enforce a blanket ban on the activity in the region. The farmers alleged senior officials in the mining and geology department of colluding with the owners of the mines. Accusing the officials of accepting bribes from the owners, the farmers said, “We submitted incriminating evidence against the officials of the department to mines and geology minister CC Patil, when he visited Baby Betta. We have asked him to initiate action against the errant officials.” Farmers are outraged at mining activities continuing around Baby Betta despite the district administration having imposed prohibitory orders. Dubbing the order a ‘farce’, the aggrieved farmers said, “All activities related to mining, including blasting, are being carried out at Baby Betta.
