PhilHealth can handle 'upcasing' in COVID-related claims – Guevarra – Manila Bulletin

“PhilHealth is currently looking into new incidents of ‘upcasing’ in relation to COVID claims,” Guevarra said.
“With a former NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) chief as President/CEO, PhilHealth can very well handle this new investigation,” he stressed.
“But the DOJ/NBI will be ready to provide assistance if requested,” assured Guevarra.
PhilHealth is now headed by Dante A. Gierran whose prior government post was NBI director.
Last year, Guevarra formed Task Force PhilHealth pursuant to the Aug. 7, 2020 memorandum of President Duterte who directed the DOJ secretary “to organize a panel for the conduct of an investigation on the various allegations of corruption and anomalies in the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), including the audit of the PhilHealth finances and conduct of lifestyle checks of its officials and employees.” ....

SC affirms P204-M disallowances on funds disbursed by PhilHealth – Manila Bulletin

The Supreme Court (SC) has affirmed the notices of disallowance (NDs)  issued by the Commission on Audit (COA) on the P204.07 million that was given to officials and employees of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) as efficiency and birthday gifts, among other benefits, in 2007 and 2008.

In a unanimous decision written by Associate Justice Henri Jean Paul B. Inting, the SC said PhilHealth officials who approved and certified the grant of the monetary benefits are liable to return P16.2 million.
It also ordered the recipients to refund the amount they received, “since it was erroneously given to and received by them.” ....

DOJ endorses PhilHealth regional office fraud raps to Ombudsman
THE TASK Force PhilHealth has officially endorsed to the Office of the Ombudsman the report of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) on its investigation on alleged fraudulent membership enrolment activities and benefit claims made at the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) Regional Office 1 (Northern Luzon), an official said on Tuesday.
In a statement, Department of Justice (DOJ) Undersecretary Neil Bainto said criminal and administrative complaints were recommended against 25 incumbent and former officials of the state health insurance firm, the majority of whom are from the regional office.
The charges include falsification of public documents under Article 171 in relation to Article 172 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC); malversation of public funds under Article 217 of the RPC, usurpation of authority under Article 177 of the RPC; violations of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Pr ....
