Founder of Toronto s famous kitchen supply store Tap Phong dies at 100
Dat Chuong Tran, the man behind the Chinatown institution Tap Phong, has died at 100.
Tran s family announced the centenarian s passing over Instagram on Saturday evening.
There has been an outpouring of support since then for the family behind one of the city s most venerated supply shops for kitchen supplies and restaurant equipment.
For 37 years, Tap Phong has shaped Toronto s restaurant industry by being the kind of store where you can find it all. But the store s origins actually trace back to Vietnam, where Dat Chuong and his wife Huong Thi first opened a shop under the same name.

Chinese restaurants across Toronto are hoping to fight stigma against Asian businesses this Lunar New Year by teaming up on a special meal kit for the ocassion.
Legendary spots like Yueh Tung, Hong Shing and Tap Phong are taking part, and the people behind projects like fried chicken pop-up Joybird and cocktail kit company Salty Paloma are also involved.

Trump had infamously dubbed COVID-19 Chinese virus, and north of the border Toronto was sadly no stranger to increased racism.
