Tanya Ironchild lives in Canada with her family. She was raised in her Indigenous community, and after rediscovering her Jamaican heritage through links in the Black community, she decided that her life and her family would honor the traditions of both communities.
Tanya Ironchild is a vibrant, biracial woman who was raised within her Indigenous community. When she rediscovered her Jamaican identity through connections within the Black community, she resolved to embrace traditions from both communities. With dance and food, Ironchild now joyfully passes down the rich heritage of both cultures to her children.
February is both Black History Month and Indigenous Storytelling Month. Tanya Ironchild and Michael Desjarlais celebrate both, and share that pride in their dual cultures with their children.
