Utah Valley s Hunsaker qualifies for NCAAs as injury replacement Utah Valley University Sports Information 3/11/2021 INDIANAPOLIS Originally named an alternate for next week s 2021 NCAA Wrestling Championships, Utah Valley University sophomore Cameron Hunsaker has officially been named an injury replacement and will now also compete at nationals as UVU will now send four wrestlers to the NCAA Championships.
Cameron HunsakerHe will join the two-time Big 12 champion and second-seeded senior Demetrius Romero at 174 pounds, the seventh-seeded junior Taylor LaMont at 125, and the redshirt freshman and No. 28 seed Ty Smith at 133 pounds. Hunsaker s seed and updated 149-pound bracket will be announced at a later time.

The 2019-20 was one of the most volatile seasons we’ve had at a weight in quite some time. Cash Wilcke was our returning 3x national qualifier that had previously made it to the round of 12 at nationals on two separate occasions. This was supposed to be the year he finally broke through to the podium. However, with a limited window for a national title, Brands & Co. wanted someone on the mat that would force the action. As the old saying goes, “It’s better to go down swinging,” and that’s exactly what they had in mind when they threw Nelson Brands in.
