An antiquarian Bible, said to be the world's first Tamil version and printed in coastal Tharangambadi of the State in 17th century which was stolen in 2005 was found in a museum in London after 17 years.
The Tamil Nadu Police Idol Wing has traced the stolen first Tamil translation of the Bible to King George III’s collection in London. Efforts are underway to retrieve the bible and restore it to Thanjavur’s Saraswathi Mahal library, from where it was stolen in 2005.
