COVID Clusters Identified At Heritage Sites | News, Sports, Jobs

Since last week, about 30 residents and staff between Heritage Green and Heritage Village have tested positive for COVID-19.

About 30 residents and staff at two Heritage nursing facilities in Chautauqua County have recently tested positive for COVID-19.
One resident and two to three employees between Heritage Green in Greenhurst and Heritage Village in Gerry were found to have the virus following routine testing. That prompted the deployment of rapid testing starting on Friday, netting about two dozen additional cases, said Lisa Haglund, Heritage president and CEO.
Eighty percent of the confirmed cases are among staff, with 20% among residents at the two locations. Haglund said about 40% of those recently testing positive for the coronavirus have been showing symptoms; two residents are considered to be “high risk” for spread, meaning they are showing multiple symptoms with Heritage working in collaboration with the ....

Stephen H. Crouse, 70, of Tanglewood Manor, died Nov. 26, 2020, at UPMC Chautauqua.
Steve was born Oct. 7, 1950, in Steamburg, N.Y., the second youngest of the nine children of the late Carl and Alma Nephew Crouse.
After graduating from Salamanca High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, becoming a paratrooper.
For his service in Viet-nam, Steve was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (second medal with four campaign stars), Army Award, two Air Medals, Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for Heroism in Ground Combat.
After his honorable discharge, Steve worked at Bush Industries in accounts payable, and earned an as-sociate degree in business administration from James-town Community College. ....

Federal data shows COVID impact on nursing home residents | News, Sports, Jobs

Area nursing homes in Chautauqua and western Cattaraugus counties have confirmed 11 cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic through the end of November, federal data shows.
A study by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services shows that 377,510 nursing home residents have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through Nov. 29. Area nursing homes in Jamestown, Greenhurst, Gerry, Westfield, Gowanda and Dunkirk were listed.
Since March, four residents at Absolut Care of Westfield have tested positive for COVID-19, while Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Center has had three residents test positive. Two residents at Lutheran Social Services and one resident at Heritage Park in Jamestown have received positive test results. One resident at Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center has also tested positive. ....
