Several hundred car buyers in Cayman can now look forward to receiving their vehicles, following the clearing of a logjam of used vehicles in the port of Kingston, Jamaica.
“I am happy to report that the backlog has been cleared and there are currently no cars in Jamaica for Cayman,” said Acting Port Authority Director Joseph Woods, who attributed the successful clearing to a collaboration between his department, Customs and Border Control and shipping agency Seaboard Marine.
To clear the backlog, Woods said shipping agencies increased their daily outputs from 25 to 30 vehicles up to 50 vehicles. ....

Country re-elected six Cabinet ministers, says Progressives leader
Speaking with the
Cayman Compass Sunday evening, McTaggart said, with discussions continuing, neither side could claim, at this point, to have the 10 representatives needed for a majority.
He appealed for calm and an end to the “online bullying” and “intimidation” of representatives as they negotiate.
“Following a general election, every elected member is free to decide who to support for government and their preference for premier,” McTaggart said in his statement issued earlier on Sunday. “That is the democratic process.”
In his interview with the
Compass, McTaggart said he was hopeful his appeal will bear fruit. ....

Exporters to halt service here until car backlog is cleared.
Several hundred used vehicles destined for buyers in Cayman are sitting at a port in Kingston, Jamaica.
The majority of the vehicles were purchased online from Asian suppliers, such as Japan-based Beforward, which has now suspended exports to Cayman.
A Beforward spokesperson, in a letter to partnering businesses, confirmed service to the Cayman Islands is being suspended for April and May.
“It is due to cargo congestion at [George Town] port in [the] Cayman Islands, because of undelivered vehicles at the port. Cargoes on the way to [Cayman Islands] will be delivered once the situation has been resolved,” the letter reads. ....
