Regional network of people living with HIV launched in Middle East and North Africa

The HIV epidemic in the Middle East and North Africa is still growing-an estimated 20 000 new HIV infections in 2019 marked a 25% increase over the 16 000 new infections in 2010. The region is far from controlling its HIV epidemic and HIV treatment coverage is low, with only 38% of people living with HIV accessing HIV treatment in 2019, resulting in 8000 people dying from AIDS-related illnesses in the region.
Community-based organizations can play important roles in the region’s HIV response, but they are constrained in many countries by limited civic space and resources. In response, community leaders living with HIV have come together to launch the first regional network of people living with HIV, MENA Plus, to strengthen the community HIV response in the region. ....

Prices of vegetables, other perishable produce crash in Kano


Food marketPrices of vegetables and other perishable produce have crashed in Kano, due to the market glut caused by increased fresh supplies from farms, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
NAN checks at Kofar Wambai and Rimi markets, in Kano metropolis, on Sunday, showed that the prices of perishable produce, such as onions, tomato and pepper, had dropped by over 200 per cent since the high prices of the past few months.

A measure of onions was sold at N100, as against its previous price of N250, tomato now costs N100 and pepper N150 as against N400 and N600 respectively. ....

'Prices of vegetables, other perishable produce crash in Kano'


A measure of onions was sold at N100, as against its previous price of N250, tomato now costs N100 and pepper N150 as against N400 and N600 respectively.
Some of the traders, like Malam Ibrahim Danborno, attributed the drop in prices to the improvement in the supply of the produce from farms to markets in the area, saying that the prices may still drop as the produce were still being brought out of farms.
Another trader, Sabiu Ismaila, said the market was flooded with the produce, due to the bumper harvest recorded by farmers this dry season, but that the situation may change due to increasing demand for the produce. ....
