Can an unintentional failure to pay domestic electricity bill by the last date be treated as ‘power theft’ and consumers made to cough up huge sums as penalty? Not legally possible, but this is what Tangedco has been specializing in of late.
The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) has announced the temporary suspension of power supply from 9 am to 2 pm to facilitate crucial maintenance work. Tangedco assures residents that if the maintenance tasks are completed before the scheduled time, power supply will be restored promptly. The affected areas include parts of Adyar and Tondiarpet, and residents are advised to plan accordingly for this temporary disruption in power service.
The searches were conducted last Friday and locations included the premises of the former director (coal) of TANGEDCO, government officials, as well as the key management personnel of SIC and Western Agencies (Madras).
