reporter: it started when students at millennium middle in tamarak are put on code red meaning on lockdown. in minutes they and kids from challenger elementary are evacuated after reports of a possible bomb on millennium s campus. i was worried about the little children that go to the elementary because i want them to be safe. reporter: a lot of worried parents waited a couple hours to pick up their students. some of them said they didn t even know what was going on. everything is unorganized. look at all these people waiting for their children. it makes no sense. reporter: in comes the bomb squad s robot to check it out. while detectives won t say what was left outside the west central part of campus, this student says he knows. he apparently had flare bombs in the school. reporter: a flare bomb he says, left as an end-of-year prank by a 13-year-old friend. i thought he was lying. a flare bomb, how is a kid going to get something that explosive? ....
