In president johnsons case he chose george washington, Andrew Jackson and his hero, Franklin Roosevelt. Very much a product of the new deal and was a protege in many respects of Franklin Roosevelt who saw the Great Potential in young Lyndon Johnson. When johnson became president it was his hope that he would finish the new deal he would finish with his Great Society what president roosevelt started with the new deal. One of the things that fdr left unaddressed in his presidency was civil rights. I think ultimately president johnson will be remember d as a civil rights president for having signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which broke the back of jim crow and separate but equal laws and Voting Rights act which gave all americans unimpeded access to the ballot box and Fair Housing Act of 1968 which allowed fair housing for all americans.
