Ministry mulls installing solar panels on army bases

Army bases are being surveyed for sites where companies could install solar panels, the Ministry of National Defense said, expressing its aim to comply with the government’s sustainable energy policies.
The ministry said in a report to the Legislative Yuan that it seeks to improve the energy security of important facilities on army bases by promoting energy diversification and self-sufficiency.
In peacetime, army bases use electricity provided by Taiwan Power, but they switch to generators and uninterruptible power systems during power outages, the ministry said.
The armed forces have purchased mobile generators that can generate between 1 kilowatt (kW) and 60kW of electricity ....

The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) yesterday reported 372 locally transmitted cases of COVID-19, 177 backlogged cases and 12 deaths.
Of the new local cases, 207 are male and 165 female, aged under five to over 90, with an onset of symptoms between May 2 and Tuesday, said Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung (陳時中), who heads the center.
Of the 177 backlogged cases, 96 are male and 81 are female, aged under five to over 80, with an onset of symptoms between May 13 and Sunday. ....

TAIPEI ( Taiwan News ) Salmon Dream, the China Medical University student from Taiwan known for changing his name to take advantage of an all-you-can-eat promotion, has reportedly changed his name back, per UDN.
A marketing gimmick by Japanese restaurant Shushiro brought international media attention to Taiwan last month, with 305 people rushing to change their names to something fishy to take advantage of a two-day free sushi promotion. The craze was dubbed the “Salmon Chaos.”
The frenzy ended after most of the Salmoners changed their names back, including the student who claimed to have used up his last legal name change and expressed remorse for the decision. In a departure from his eye-catching behavior, such as charging strangers NT$400 (US$14.05) to dine with him under his new moniker, he changed his name back without fanfare. ....
