Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) launched his initiative to invest in and develop innovations in technology during a press conference at Syracuse University on Monday.
Schumer announced the $160 billion piece of legislation alongside SU Chancellor Kent Syverud, Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon and Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh at the university’s National Veterans Resource Center.

A look inside the former Syracuse Central Technical High School in downtown Syracuse. The school opened in 1903 and served the city for 72 years until it was closed in 1975, replaced by Fowler High School. A county-wide STEAM high school is now planned for the building. Syracuse, N.Y. Amazon announced today that it is donating $1.75 million to fund robotics and computer science programs at the new STEAM high school planned for downtown Syracuse.
The $74 million regional high school is expected to open in fall 2022 in the former Central Tech High School building in downtown Syracuse. It is a joint project between the Syracuse school district, city of Syracuse and Onondaga County. It will be the first regional high school in Central New York. ....

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh formally announced his bid to lead the Salt City for another four years at the Westcott Theater Monday.
Walsh, who will once again run as an Independent, pointed to his continued work on the Syracuse Surge initiative, as well as the progress that the city has made despite the challenges of the pandemic.

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh announced his campaign for reelection at a press conference at the Westcott Theater on Monday.
Walsh who will run as an independent will need to collect at least 750 signatures, starting April 13, to appear on the ballot. Walsh will face Michael Greene, a common councilor and the Democratic candidate for mayor. Democrat Khalid Bey, an at-large common councilor, is also facing Greene in a primary campaign.
The Republican party has yet to announce its candidate, though Walsh said he would not seek the Republican nomination. The Independence Party of New York endorsed Walsh as its candidate in a letter Wednesday. ....
