WE are pleased to find that in the course of the budget discussion, a spirited attack was made by more than one member on the working of the C.I.D. Syed Muhammad Hussain, who moved a resolution recommending the reduction of the expenditure upon this force by Rs. 59,000, said that while he did not want the abolition of the force, he was of the opinion that the false reports submitted by the C.I.D. did much harm, as the Government put implicit faith in them. In 1919 much of the trouble was due to false C.I.D. reports. Now that the Reforms had been inaugurated and Indians had been given a substantial share in the Government all suspicion and distrust should be laid aside. Mr. Ganpat Rai said that he was opposed to the C.I.D. as such, and strongly criticised the working of the force and their false reports. Mr. Joseph, who replied on behalf of the Government, sought to defend the force against the attacks of the Indian members, by saying that there was no service in the country or
